Question:

Is your 200mg SAMe a true 200mg of active SAMe?

Is your 400mg SAMe a true 400mg of active SAMe?

If you do not know the answer to this question you may be only getting half of what you think you are getting and the price you thought was too good to be true probably is.

Answer:

SAMe advertised as 200mg SAMe (or S-Adenosyl-Methionine) should have 200mg of active SAMe.

SAMe advertised as 400mg SAMe (or S-Adenosyl-Methionine) should have 400mg of active SAMe.

What Every SAMe Buyer Needs to Know:

Every true 200mg SAMe tablet is made up of a 400mg compound called S-Adenosyl-Methionine tosylate disulfate. This compound has two components:

1)     200mg SAMe (S-Adenosyl-Methionine) the active component

2)     200mg tosylate disulfate (stabilizing salt) the inactive component

Every true 400mg SAMe tablet is made up of a 800mg compound called S-Adenosyl-Methionine tosylate disulfate. This compound has two components:

1)     400mg SAMe (S-Adenosyl-Methionine) the active component

2)     400mg tosylate disulfate (stabilizing salt) the inactive component

SAMe is short for S-Adenosyl-Methionine and does not refer to the total salt SAMe tosylate disulfate.

Here’s what to look for:

Some companies will advertise 400mg SAMe but when you check the supplement facts on their label they will say: 400mg SAMe tosylate disulfate yielding 200mg S-Adenosyl-Methionine. This is not 400mg SAMe. This is a 200mg SAMe tablet.

1) Check the supplement facts, make sure that the        
    400mg SAMe advertised refers only to 400mg S- 
    Adenosyl-Methionine (not 400mg SAMe tosylate
    disulfate yielding a 200mg SAMe tablet).

2) True SAMe 200mg tablets are round.

    True SAMe 400mg tablets are oval.
